The class yesterday was about Geodatabases. There are several different types depending on what you need to do with it. Basically the geodatabase is a Relational Database. The rules for relational databases and data integrity are the same. I think they put the geo in front of database to designate the fact that it is used in a Geographic Information System. If you understand the relationships in a database then you will see the similarities in the geodatabase.
Information that is important about geodatabases:
It is scalable
You can have multiple users and editors
Features and Feature classes can be linked
Topology is rule based
